Hello, I’m Steven Reigns.

For over a decade I have helped others navigate the complex and challenging aspects of dating, love, sex, and romantic relationships. I also have extensive expertise in assisting clients struggling with substance abuse and anxiety. 

As the founder of Therapy for Adults and a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist, #92675, my intimate practice is located in the heart of West LA. My approach involves a strong investment in my client's emotional health and happiness. Working together, we prioritize issues, triaging the most pressing and painful issues first.

Many people hold a common misconception that therapy is simply talking about one’s problems. While an awareness of the issue is important, I believe it is only a small piece of our work together.

I take a results-focused approach to therapy. Instead of dwelling on your problems, we’ll put energy into finding solutions.

I believe that you already hold the capacity to move past your issues. Together, we’ll expand upon your strengths and incorporate new coping strategies.

Of course, I provide my expert guidance and support throughout the whole process. However, I want to assure you that therapy with me is a mutual effort. We will move at the pace you decide is best and work toward goals that you have identified.

+ What sorts of issues do you see in couples?

I've helped couples with all types of issues, and I'm highly experience in couples therapy that address infidelity, anxiety, and addictions. Many couples experience infidelity. However, it doesn’t necessarily mean that your relationship is unfixable or over. Though it can be difficult to rebuild trust after experiencing infidelity, it is possible. I help couples build on their relationship’s strengths and teach new ways of relating in order to move forward. I also help couples with anxiety. Anxiety impacts every area of a person’s life--including their relationships. People with anxiety may be plagued with thoughts like, “Does my partner really love me?” They may also be more sensitive to others, causing tension in the relationship. Conversely, the partner without anxiety may struggle to know how best to support their loved one. I help couples gain clarity around how anxiety affects their relationship and how they can work with it, not against it. The couples I work with leave therapy with a greater understanding of each other and themselves.
Due to my extensive experience in addictions counseling, I understand the serious impacts anxiety can have on a relationship. I have specialized training in helping people navigate their recovery process. I provide couples with the support to openly discuss how addiction affects their dynamic. I strive to create a space without judgment or stigma so that both individuals feel comfortable being open and honest.

+ Do I really need counseling? Can’t I just talk to a friend?

I believe that everyone can benefit from speaking with a therapist.
While it is helpful to have supportive family and friends to confide in, this is not the same as counseling. Therapists have extensive education and experience supporting people with a variety of issues.

Furthermore, I provide virtual sessions so you can access high-quality treatment from the comfort of your own home, regardless of where you’re located in California.

Highly sensitive people (HSP) are exactly that--individuals who tend to be more attuned to their surroundings. These people have extra-sensitive nervous systems, making them more vulnerable to feelings of overwhelm and emotional reactivity. While this can be exhausting, I believe that a person’s sensitivity can also be their strength. I help HSP own this trait and increase their ability to cope with the world around them.
